P. JAMES MARKHAM, R.E., C.M.E.
Born in Washington, DC, James has had a lifelong passion for medicine. He spent 18 years in Northern Virginia before relocating to Florida on scholarship to Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. After school, he moved to rural Pasco County, Florida, built a home and founded a private medical technologies company with three partners. As director of research, he developed many products including a facial contouring soft tissue filler similar to Radiesse®. These products were protected with patents and the company went public. For several years, he worked with various medical practices in the Tampa Bay area, watching as lasers came to the forefront of aesthetic medicine. In 1999, James became one of the first clinicians to use the Candela Gentlelase® alexandrite laser for hair removal in Florida. Later, with the goal of pursuing an advanced nursing degree, he spent 3 years in the Pulmonary Critical Care Department at Tampa General Hospital. Deciding that caring for critically ill patients was taking its emotional toll, he returned to school and prepared for a career in laser aesthetics. In 2006 he graduated from the Electrolysis and Laser Institute of Tampa and is certified by the Florida Board of Medicine to practice electrology and laser hair removal. He accepted a teaching position at the Institute, giving weekly lectures on advanced electrology, laser physics and tissue interaction.
James is now able to help people feel happier and more confident about their appearance. He is satisfied that after each procedure, patients leave the office closer to their final goals. He says: “Being a perfectionist is really required in this specialty, patients want a perfect result and I know I can give it to them”.
